Our story

Since the 13th century, Villa Erbaia has been home to stories of nobility and charm, intertwining the events of illustrious families and great protagonists of Italian history.

Its gardens and halls have welcomed Charles V of Habsburg, Pope Pius IX and, in 1880, King Umberto I of Italy with the Duke of Aosta and the entire court. Surrounded by the ancient estates of the Medici, the Gerini and the most noble families of Tuscany, the Villa was part of a cultural and economic heart that made the region famous from 1400 to 1800.

From 1300 to 1918, it belonged to the historic Florentine Dini family, of which Gonfaloniere Francesco di Piero di Dino and Senator Agostino were prominent figures, protagonists of Florentine political and commercial life, close to the great Rucellai and Medici families.

But there is more: the land surrounding the villa was once used to grow medicinal herbs, from which the residence takes its name, silent witnesses to a care for nature that has been handed down for centuries. Today, as then, Villa Erbaia exudes a harmony of history, beauty and timeless charm, a place where past and present meet amid silence and ancient scents.
